Pet Danica Walkway
Named after five young women, all called Danica, who died during World War II, this pedestrian promenade stretches along the waterfront for around 7 km, from Igalo to Meljine. It's lined with summer bars, shops, beaches and the rocky cove, and in places it ducks in and out of tunnels carved through headlands. This was once the route of a trainline linking Zelenika to Sarajevo via Herceg Novi and Dubrovnik. The old stone railway station still stands at the foot of the Old Town, although it's long since been converted into a cafe. There are many beaches here to choose from, all offer loungers and sun umbrellas. The best thing about Herceg Novi's beaches is that the water is some of the clearest in the bay, perfect for a day of swimming and snorkelling. Although quite busy during the day, the promenade really comes alive at night. People start to come out from about 8 pm onwards to take a walk over the promenade. You can dine at one of the many restaurants, all of which are open until 10pm at least.
